ILE ST HONORAT OFF CANNES
On 19. September, 10am, we take the navette to St Honorat.
The island was already habited in 410 by St Honoratus, who built a monastery and the island became home to a community of Cistercian monks.
Legend has it St Patrick studied there in the 5th century. Under the French revolution 1787, the monastery became property of the state. In 1869 Cistercian monks re=established a religious community there where they have remained ever since.
We shall visit Lerin Abbey and other monastic buildings. The abbot, who speaks English, will talk to us about the island’s history.
After a picnic lunch (club sandwich, salad, dessert, fruit, bottled water and, of course, a modicum of wine) the island will be toured. The monks run their own souvenir shop and also make their own wine and liqueurs.
A wine-tasting session with an expert sommelier, is available and lasts 35 minutes. Price 27€ This is optional. We know some members do not drink wine. A coffee might be an alternative.
ALL INCLUSIVE COST:
Hotel, breakfast, dinner, navette to and from the island, picnic lunch
Single members 200€
Couples 310€
WINE TASTING IS OPTIONAL 27€ each. Do let me know if you would like to do this.
Should you prefer an extra night at the hotel, please let Helena Forsen know: forsen.helena@telia.com
Helena will make sure everyone arrives at the restaurant in time for dinner and is at the port in time the next morning.
Please let me know as soon as possible, if you would like to take part in this trip.
